Language of disease
Language of disease
Disease is an enemy that must be feared, fought, battled, and routed.
The patient or the physician is a warrior, rather than a passive victim or bystander(旁觀者).
The agents of communicable diseases are invaders;
non-communicable diseases constitute internal insurrection.
Metaphors describes the experience of illness as a journey:
The person travels to or from a place of disease, and changes himself, discovers new information, or increases his experience along the way.

Got sick after a 3 days 2 nights busy wild camp in a very cold campsite with a group of teenagers.
See my first super starry night in HK during the camp, really amazing, can see the 北斗星,北斗七星,獵戶座...etc. Also first time to set up the tent, camp fire, night walk...etc.
When i got sick, i can strongly feel that some of my 5 senses become weaker.
ie. smell, taste.
Blink
what will happen if people don't know they have sense?
just like if they always being sick, but they don't realize they got sickness.
suddenly one day, when the sickness get cure, they can feel their senses again.
However, this idea smell like a bit overlap with "Matrix" :P
Blink
but sickness maybe a good direction, related to senses and also not many existing topic in comic.

some comments from supervisors:
- try to add 5 sense (i.e in the room)
- why you want to add sense?
- see different culture of comic
see the style in eg. learning / children / adult / political comics...
- think about the content and intention
- if you want to challenge one thing, you have to know what is it.
- organize the memory / what touch you the most.
- make brief structure < so that you can choose
- story can be ordinary but it should be something that touch you

Short talk with Mariko on 26/11/2010
I want to suggest ppl using their other senses in the process of "reading" a comic. (eg senses like sound/touch/smell/taste...) i think this idea may inspired by the 3D & 4D movie experience when i was in cinema.
my first suggesting approach is to print/draw some pages of the comic in another material eg plastic sheet/ lantern paper to create sound when people flip the page.
other is to spray some smell into the panel (maybe full of flower)
third is placing the panel into different place to obtain the sound...
"Comic is normally an everyday element. As a book not especially expensive and it is a mass product.
If we take your idea it rather sounds like a unique item or an artists book."
"Even though you are making an artist book, the main problem is what's your story? what u r going to tell?"
"u may try turning it into the direction of wii or nintendo ds" (ask somebody who can work the program part with you)
"Maybe you can make a 2D room installation and let the people create their own story there"
"eg. using the idea of silent butler > silent friends & family"
"where to put the comic?"
"I know it's always hard to start :) "

Reading in process 1
The ACME Novelty library ( 741.5973 Ac65 2008 no.19)
Author: Chris Ware
Author: Chris Ware
very famous comic artist introduced by Justin in comic art lesson.
Ware has said of his own style:
"I try to use the rules of typography to govern the way that I "draw", which keeps me at a sensible distance from the story as well as being a visual analog to the way we remember and conceptualize the world."
"I figured out this way of working by learning from and looking at artists I admired and whom I thought came closest to getting at what seemed to me to be the "essence" of comics"
" I see the black outlines of cartoons as visual approximations of the way we remember general ideas, and I try to use naturalistic color underneath them to simultaneously suggest a perceptual experience, which I think is more or less the way we actually experience the world as adults"
"we don't really "see" anymore after a certain age, we spend our time naming and categorizing and identifying and figuring how everything all fits together."

Comic installation
It's time to organize the information i got for my HP development.
My very first idea is to apply comic elements into different art form.
Here's some exhibition design of Justin Wong which is very close to what I had imagined in my mind.
